Senior Managers

The day-to-day management of AustralianSuper is the responsibility of the Fund’s highly skilled and experienced senior managers:

 

Ian Silk

Chief Executive
Ian Silk is the Chief Executive of AustralianSuper and is responsible for the overall management of the Fund and the provision of advice to the Board. Ian is a Director of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and is the Chair of ASFA’s Policy Committee; a member of the Financial Services Advisory Council to the Federal Treasurer; a Member of the Federal Government's Financial Literacy Advisory Board; and a Director of Yooralla. Ian has worked in the finance industry for 15 years. Ian holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning); and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Labour Relations Law.

Mark Delaney, CFA

Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Investments Officer
Mark is the Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Investments Officer of AustralianSuper, acting as an advisor to the Board, developing and implementing investment strategies, and managing the work of AustralianSuper's investment advisers. Mark was the Chief Executive of the Superannuation Trust of Australia (STA) for three years prior to the merger with ARF to form AustralianSuper. Prior to AustralianSuper, Mark worked for 14 years at National Mutual/AXA, moving his way through the company from Economist to Senior Manager of Investment Services. He also spent four years working as an economist in the Federal Department of Treasury. Mark has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mark is also a Director of Industry Superannuation Property Trust (ISPT), Australian Council of Super Investors Inc. (ACSI) and IFM Investor Advisory Board.

Anna Aristotle

General Manager - Workplace Services and Education
Anna is responsible for AustralianSuper’s Account Managers and ensures they are focused on the timely and efficient provision of services to members and employers. Anna has considerable knowledge and experience in the superannuation industry. She was an Account Manager with ARF for three years before being appointed to the position of National Manager of Superannuation Services. Before joining ARF, Anna worked as the Business Development Manager for JUST Super. She was also employed by the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees, first as Recruitment and Education Officer and subsequently as General Manager. Prior to that, she worked for the Health Services Union of Australia in a variety of marketing, education and industrial-oriented roles. Anna has the ASFA Certificate in Superannuation Management and a Diploma in Financial Advising and in Financial Planning and Advice from the Securities Institute.

Tony Cavanagh

General Manager - Finance and Risk
Tony is responsible for all financial and accounting matters for AustralianSuper covering statutory lodgements, budgetary and expense control, and policies and procedures. He is also responsible for all external and internal audit matters, and tax lodgement and compliance. He has responsibility for the Fund's combined Risk Management Strategy and Risk Management Plan including ongoing maintenance and compliance. He is also responsible for internal delivery of IT solutions, as well as the Fund's Business Continuity Plan. Tony has a Bachelor of Economics and is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 30 years' experience in accounting and finance. He has been involved in providing consulting services to superannuation funds for over 20 years when he held senior positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen. He has previously been a Director of a financial services software company and a financial planning licensee.

James Coyle

General Manager - Marketing and Communications
James is responsible for AustralianSuper's extensive marketing and communications activities. This includes marketing initiatives designed to retain and increase AustralianSuper's significant membership base, as well as the development of education and communication strategies for our members and employers. James has considerable experience across the financial services sector, particularly within superannuation. He was the Marketing and Business Development General Manager for both Hesta and Telstra Super and held positions with NAB and Macquarie Bank. James has a Bachelor of Economics, a Masters in Marketing, a Diploma in Market Research and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst.

Margie Hill

General Manager People and Culture
Margie is responsible for aligning the Fund’s human resource policies and practices to business strategy at both strategic and operational levels. Margie has extensive experience in human resources with a strong background leading cultural transformation, talent management and career development projects for organisations including TRUenergy, Westpac, Telstra, Arup Australia and the Affirmative Action Agency. Margie holds a Master of Labour Law and Relations, a Master of Environmental Studies, and a Bachelor of Economics.

Glenn Palmer

General Manager - Operations
Glenn is responsible for the operations of AustralianSuper, including administration of members' accounts and the administrative needs of employers. Glenn has over 10 years experience with the Fund and has fulfilled a variety of positions including the role of General Manager – Insurance. Before joining AustralianSuper, Glenn worked for a large superannuation administrator in their client-servicing area. Glenn holds a Certificate of Superannuation Management (ASFA), the first unit of the Diploma in Financial Planning, and has completed an Executive MBA (Mt Eliza Business School).

Noel Lacey

General Manager - Product
Noel is responsible for product management of the Fund’s: insurance, investment choice offering, pension, corporate divisions; and other new products. Noel has more than 10 years' experience with AustralianSuper. During this time he has held the positions of Manager – Administration and until recently General Manager – Insurance and Corporate Administration. In total, Noel has over 20 years of superannuation management experience, having held senior positions at Southcorp and Uncle Tobys prior to AustralianSuper. Noel has the ASFA Certificate and Diploma of Superannuation Management, an Advanced Certificate in Business Studies (Personnel), and a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).

Paul Schroder

General Manager - Growth and New Opportunities
Paul manages AustralianSuper's Growth and New Opportunities department. He was previously the National Secretary of the Finance Sector Union of Australia and is highly regarded across the financial services sector. He played an active role in the transfer of Finsuper into AustralianSuper, and has served as both a member elected and employer appointed trustee of a Defined Benefit staff scheme. He has extensive experience in the finance industry and a strong grasp of the key strategic issues facing the superannuation industry. His team is responsible for driving growth across the Fund. Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne) and was awarded the Shell exhibition prize for Labour economics.

Diane Spaul

General Manager - Compliance
Diane’s primary responsibility is to ensure AustralianSuper is compliant with legislative and other mandatory requirements. She has been a highly qualified and experienced member of the AustralianSuper team for 8 years. Diane has had a diverse background including nursing, administration and accounting and her superannuation experience includes 5 years working at the Insurance and Superannuation Commission reviewing compliance of superannuation funds and undertaking associated audit activities. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Economics, a Bachelor of Laws, a Certificate of Superannuation Management, PS 146 and a Graduate Diploma in Company Secretarial Practice. Diane is also a Company Secretary of AustralianSuper Pty Ltd and a member of the ASFA Legal and Compliance Committee.
