Jockeys Super Benefit scheme

Contact Email Print

Most jockeys will retire from racing well before they reach the traditional retirement age of 65, so their needs are different to those of many other superannuation fund members.

To recognise this, Racing Victoria, together with the Victorian Jockeys Association and STA, now AustralianSuper, have developed a two-part retirement package designed specially to meet the needs of jockeys.

The two parts are the Jockeys' Super Benefit and the Jockeys' Career Benefit.

Jockeys' Super Benefit
The Jockeys' Super Benefit is offered to you through AustralianSuper one of Australia's largest 'run only to profit members' industry funds.

It is designed to help you build your savings for when you reach retirement age.

As a member of AustralianSuper, you'll benefit from:

  • A wide choice of investment options
  • Insurance for death only (subject to acceptance by the insurer)
  • Access to financial planning advice
  • Access to competitive home loan, credit card and bank products
  • Ongoing help and support with your super.

If you would like more information about any of these features contact the AustralianSuper National Service Centre on 1300 300 273.

Jockeys' Career Benefit
The Jockeys' Career Benefit has been initiated by Racing Victoria.

It is designed to provide financial support for jockeys who reach retirement, are in need of financial assistance or are age 35 or over.

To be eligible to participate, you must be a Victorian resident and:

  • A jockey registered by Racing Victoria Limited, or
  • An apprentice jockey indentured in the state of Victoria (Victorian jockey).

You must also make a contribution of $10 to the Jockeys' Super Benefit or to another regulated superannuation fund for every Victorian ride.

If you make this contribution then Racing Victoria will contribute $5 per ride to Jockeys' Career Benefit.

The full guidelines and rules of the Scheme can be obtained by calling the Racing Victoria Education and Training Centre on (03) 9258 4620.
