Investment Options

AustralianSuper offers you the choice of 16 investment options – so there is an option for every type of investor.

You can select one option, or any combination of options to create an investment portfolio that matches your needs. Find out more about making an investment choice. If you don’t make an investment choice when you join, we’ll invest your account in the Balanced option.

PreMixed Options

All the PreMixed investment options are made up of more than one asset class. These options have been premixed by AustralianSuper to provide diversification and to seek different levels of return for different levels of risk.

DIY Mix Options

The DIY Mix options are each made up of a single asset class. With DIY Mix options you can select your own combination of asset classes to suit you.

Not ready to make a choice?

If you don’t make an investment choice when you join, we’ll invest your account in the Balanced option*. You can switch from this option when you want to make a choice. Our Balanced option invests across Australian and international shares, property, infrastructure, fixed interest and cash. It has been designed to meet the investment needs of a majority of members.

ASX 200 Shares option

With this option, you get to choose the companies you invest in.

Subject to eligibility, you could invest up to 50% of your super in a selection of the largest 200 companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

*The Balanced option is the default option until you reach 75. If at age 75 you haven't made an investment choice your account will be switched from the Balanced option to the Conservative Balanced option.

You can invest in one option or a combination of the options, and change options as your needs change. There is no fee if you switch investment options#.

If you don't make a choice, your superannuation will be invested in the AustralianSuper Balanced Investment Option, which is the Fund’s default option. You can then switch out of this option when you are ready to make a choice.

Please note that the returns quoted are net of fees and tax. The 1 year, 3 year, 5 year, 10 year and since inception figures, where they appear, are rolling returns as at 31 December 2009. These historical returns are the combined return information from previous ARF and STA investment options.

Where only one of the merging funds previously offered an equivalent to an option in the new product suite, the returns of that option have been used. Where both funds offered an equivalent option, the returns have been asset weighted across both options on a monthly basis, as per industry best practice. Where data isn’t available for one or both of the equivalent options, the monthly returns have been averaged. The same process has been used for calculating historical investment fees. Investment returns are not guaranteed as all investments carry some risk. Past performance gives no indication of future returns.

Please note that the asset allocations displayed on this website are as at 1 November 2009. The Trustee of AustralianSuper may change its asset allocations at any time.

# An annual fee of $39 and brokerage costs also apply to the ASX 200 Shares Investment Option.
