AustralianSuper engages specialist investment management companies (referred to in the industry as investment managers or fund managers) to invest money in the different asset classes. Due to AustralianSuper’s buying power, we can engage these investment managers at a cost that is lower per member than the cost an individual would pay to invest with them directly.
We take many factors into account when selecting investment managers, including:
- Strength of the company, its management structure and ownership.
- Investment process used by the manager.
- Experience of its investment team.
- Track record.
- Whether the manager complements AustralianSuper’s other investment managers.
When AustralianSuper engages an investment manager we assign a ‘mandate’ to them, which is an agreement that outlines how funds are to be invested.
