Why choose?

No single investment option suits everyone. So it’s important to choose an investment option that will help you reach your financial goals.

If you haven’t made an investment choice, your super will automatically be investment in the Balanced Investment Option (the ‘default’ option).

Making the right choice

When it comes to choosing an investment option, the two main factors you need to consider are your investment time frame and your risk profile.

1. Your investment time frame
The length of time your superannuation will be invested is usually from now until you can access your super on retirement. As a guide, your investment time frame is likely to be:

  • Short-term – if you intend to retire in less than three years
  • Medium-tern – if you intend to retire in three to seven years
  • Long-term – if you intend to retire more than seven years from now.

2. Your risk profile
There’s no such thing as a risk free investment. The level of risk you’re comfortable with depends on the type of investor you are. To find out more, take the Investor Quiz.

What can I choose from?

AustralianSuper gives you a choice of 16 investment options, including our six PreMixed Investment Options that combine different types of asset classes to meet specific investment objectives set by the Fund, and the nine asset-specific DIY Mix Options where you build your own portfolio by choosing your own combination of asset classes.

* An annual fee of $39 and brokerage costs on trading apply for the ASX 200 Investment Option.

Please ensure you read the Investment Switching and ASX 200 acknowledgements and conditions before making an investment switch or ASX 200 trade.
