AustralianSuper appoints Alex Stanić to lead Core Global Equity portfolio

London, 29 April 2025

AustralianSuper, Australia’s largest superannuation fund, today announced Alex Stanić will join the fund in May 2025 as Head of Core Equity within the International Equities asset class.

The senior appointment in AustralianSuper’s London office sees the Fund continue its international expansion, adding industry-leading active management expertise to further internalise the management of International Equities, the Fund’s largest asset class allocation and help deliver sustainable long-term performance for members.

Alex joins AustralianSuper from Artemis Investment Management where he was Head of Global Equities, a Partner and lead manager of Artemis’s Global Select and Global Focus strategies. With 30 years’ equities investing experience, Alex has previously held senior portfolio management roles at JPMorgan Asset Management, River & Mercantile Asset Management and Newton Investment Management.

Over half of AustralianSuper’s c.£180 billion (A$365 billion) in total members’ assets are currently invested in equities, with c.£60 billion (A$118 billion) allocated to International Equities, (i.e. non-Australian equities). Approximately 30% of the International Equities portfolio is currently internally managed, however AustralianSuper intends to increase this to a significant majority by 2030, aiming to create greater cost efficiency at scale and generate stronger returns to the benefit of members. The Fund’s internal investment teams take a ‘one portfolio’ approach to leverage insights and optimise returns via deep fundamental and quantitative research and security selection.

“We are delighted to welcome Alex to the Fund, adding further outstanding fund management expertise to our growing global equities platform,” said Mark Hargraves, Head of International Equities and Private Equity at AustralianSuper. “Alex’s appointment reflects our focus on enhancing the Fund’s global investment capability, particularly within International Equities, our single largest asset class allocation. We believe Alex’s strong track record of active management will help to generate long-term performance for members in public markets.”

AustralianSuper is currently the 16th largest pension fund in the world by total assets and the fastest growing among the top 201. The Fund is forecast to exceed £260 billion (A$500 billion) of assets under management within the next five years. The Fund expects to deploy almost 70% of these new inflows into global markets. By 2030, the Fund expects 70% of all member assets to be internally managed and expects to manage £250 billion of member assets from its London office by 2035.
