Cyber fraud incident - Protecting your account

Friday 11 April 2025

We are committed to keeping members informed about the cyber fraud incident and potential service outages through updates on this webpage.

Member update from the Chief Executive

Service Update

We have been experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of calls to our contact centre that may result in a longer than normal wait time. We apologise for any disruption you may experience.

Cyber fraud update

Recently AustralianSuper was one of a number of superannuation funds affected by a cyber fraud. As soon as we became aware of suspicious activity, we took immediate action.

As a result, we identified suspicious activity in relation to around 600 of AustralianSuper’s 3.5 million member accounts. Where possible we have communicated with the 600 members affected and have temporarily locked their accounts to ensure they remain secure.

For all members, we have also put additional security controls in place. This includes temporarily restricting the ability to change bank account and contact details via the mobile app and online accounts. While these actions are temporarily restricted, members will need to call us to make these changes.

If you notice any suspicious activity on your account, such as a transaction you haven’t made or a change to your phone number, email or bank account details, please call us on 1300 300 273 8am-8pm (AEST) weekdays.

What steps can I take to protect my information and account?

There are some simple steps you can take to safeguard your account. Please don’t click on attachments on your phone or your computer unless you are certain of the sender. Most importantly, we urge you to make sure your AustralianSuper password is strong, not easy to guess and is not used anywhere else.

To further safeguard your account:

  • Log in to your account and change your password to a strong one you’ve never used before.
  • Download the app, and set up a PIN, Touch ID or Face ID to increase your security.
  • Check your transactions. If there are any unusual transactions on your account, call us on 1300 300 273, 8am-8pm (AEST) weekdays.
  • Check that your details are correct, and if they have been changed against your knowledge, call us on 1300 300 273 8am-8pm (AEST) weekdays.

Unexpected account balance

If you see a reduction in your account balance you weren’t expecting, this does not necessarily indicate fraudulent or suspicious activity on your account.

Global markets are experiencing more volatility than usual, largely due to geopolitical events and US trade (tariff) policy. It’s important to remember that market ups and downs are a normal part of investing.

If you are concerned about suspicious activity or transactions, please call us on 1300 300 273 8am-8pm (AEST) weekdays.

    Service Update

We are experiencing a high volume of calls to our contact centre resulting in higher than normal wait time. In addition, member online accounts and the mobile app are experiencing a high volume of traffic that may cause intermittent outages. We are also undertaking a range of planned maintenance to address this issue that may result in the portal and app being offline at times.

We apologise for this disruption to our services and are working hard to minimise outages. Please check the dedicated webpage again for up-to-date information.

    Cyber Incident

A cyber incident has impacted a number of superannuation funds, including AustralianSuper.

We have seen a spike in suspicious activity in relation to around 600 member accounts.

Keeping members’ money and data safe is our highest priority and we have taken immediate steps to safeguard members’ accounts, including:

    • We have locked impacted members accounts and where possible notified the impacted member, via SMS or email.
    • We have put additional security controls in place for all members to protect their accounts. This includes disabling some functionality inside the mobile app and online accounts. As a result, AustralianSuper members will not be able to change their bank account or contact details at this time. We regret the inconvenience this will cause some members.
    • We are engaging with the Australian Signals Directorate, the National Office of Cyber Security, APRA, ASIC, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Department of Home Affairs on a coordinated response.

If you think there has been suspicious activity on your account, such as a transaction you haven’t made or a change to your phone number, email or bank account details, please call us on 1300 300 273 8am-8pm (AEST) weekdays.
