Total & Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover
TPD cover is there for you if you're too sick or injured to ever work again. It's a lump sum payment to help cover the costs of rehabilitation and the future cost of living. If you don't have TPD cover, you might still be able to access your super early under special circumstances.
Please read the Applying for a Total & Permanent Disablement payment fact sheet before making a claim.
Making a claim
When making your claim, you'll need:
- details of your medical condition and treating doctors,
- details of your last employer, including date last worked and occupational history,
- details of any other claims, such as Workers Compensation or other insurance policies,
- any medical reports or information at hand ready to upload to your claim, and
- Identification, such as Driver's License, Passport or Medicare card to validate your identity online.
Income Protection
Income Protection provides financial support if you can’t work due to illness or injury.
Waiting period
Most members have a 30 or 60-day waiting period. Your waiting period starts from the date you’re medically certified as unfit for work by your doctor or cease working, whichever is later.
You must be totally unfit for all work for the first 14 days of the waiting period and continue to be certified unfit for work (either partially or totally unfit) at the end of the waiting period to be eligible for any payments.
No benefits are paid for, or during, the waiting period. This means you won’t receive payments within the 30 or 60-day waiting period and will not be back paid for this waiting period if your claim is admitted. Benefits will only start to be payable after the 30 or 60-day waiting period has ended.
